Barry Lucy

Served 1951-1988

In 1958 Wilf Rogers and Bernie Arbour were to a project to run the Hamilton Police Amateur Athletic Association (HPAAA) for the Hamilton Police and the City of Hamilton. Bernie Arbour died young in 1967 and Wilf continued with his work until 1974 when the City was amalgamated with 5 surrounding municipalities. At this point the HPAAA was disbanded and closed. Retired Officer Joe Connors remembers that he met Wilf working in Uniformed Patrol at Kenilworth Station in 1975. Wilf continued working until he retired in 1988.

For years the proceeds from the annual Police Auction of Found Property were given to the HPAAA to run the organization.  Shown here is Judge Beamer Hopkins and an associate from the Police Services Board giving the annual cheque to Officers Bernie Arbour, John Kinnaird and Wilf Rogers.

After retirement, Wilf continued his commitment to sports by organizing inter-mural sports for the Police Officers, especially for their hockey teams.  He and Bob Harris, Larry Sheppard and John Evans ran these teams and team selection and rink rentals for many years.

Wilf suffered from terrible back injuries and still he continued to volunteer his services in many different ways.  He and his wife Sue ran the Stoney Creek Food Bank for 30 years.  He finally only stopped because of his health.  In 2015 Wilf and his wife Sue were awarded the honour of “Citizens of the Year for Stoney Creek”
